In a moment when leaders consider the issue of the effectiveness of their own actions, an old parameter takes back its place: the initiative.

We might not have the “magic” receipt for the exact strategy of the useful actions to lead the enterprise in an always more uncertain, impulsive, fast market, and maybe we do not even pretend to be that unerring. In fact, we can precisely affirm that the era of “successful industrial-organizational models” and of “last best seller guru who has the secret ingredient or the best successful business elixir” is over. This copying attitude turned out to be one of the triggers of the highest moment of uncertainty in the economic world.

These “me, too” mechanisms – where it was relevant to identify the last business tendency – had led the economic system to create what the market hates most, and is most dangerous in an ameliorative perspective: conformism.

Within conformism, every single part of the social-economic system tends to level down, to have a re-active and false ordered attitude, where every single idea, action or result is “explained” and not “analyzed”. We lose sight of the intelligence, the highest merit of an organization or of its leadership.

What does mean intelligence? Intelligence is the human ability of great humility, where people take the Socrates concept “I acknowledge that I do not know” and analysis is the approach and action to better understand every event, to break it up and re-order it in a better way. We follow logic and re-define the event in an ameliorative synthesis, that realizes greater usefulness for the community. Intelligence enhances non to pretend of “explaining” a fact, a result, but to “listen, understand and improve” it in order to learn and donate it to others in a development perspective.

From now on there’s innovation, understand to improve. Then inventiveness, create to develop.

Only continuous learning shows the enterprise. Who initiates does not know, but want to understand, does not explain, but want to exchange and research new roads, methodology and ideas where have not been discovered yet.

This is anti-conformism, the courage to always dare because there is not the course made by others, but there is the exploration of new boundaries, where nobody entered yet; anti-conformism is the courage to dare to be leader of improvement and change.

The initiative is the way of civilization, without civilization there is no social-economic system of profit and prosperity.
